Steps to a Successful Food Plot

New to food plotting? Follow these steps. We've helped hundreds of hunters in NEPA get it right — it's not complicated when you know the order.

01

Soil Testing

The very first step. Soil testing tells you your pH, organic matter levels, and micronutrient levels. This determines how much fertilizer and lime you'll need for maximum results. If you've never done a soil test, we can help you and interpret the results.

02

Weed Control

Whether you till or not, weed control is essential. Glyphosate is a cost-effective non-selective herbicide that kills off existing vegetation. We also offer grass-selective and broadleaf-selective herbicides when the situation calls for it.

03

Lime Application

Based on soil test results, add lime to adjust pH. We recommend Cal Turf Pro — a fast-acting, easy-to-spread pelletized lime. Only 5 bags per acre per year saves you time, labor, and money.

04

Seed Selection

Selecting the proper seed blend is crucial. Determine your food plot goals — whether you're providing nutrition or attraction for hunting season. We can help you pick the right blends based on your objectives and your land.

05

Fertilizer

Proper fertilization ensures maximal plot growth. The blend and amount depend on what you're planting and what the soil test calls for. This is also something we can help you dial in.

06

Enjoy It From a Shadow Hunter Blind

Not an essential step — but what better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than sitting in warmth and comfort in a Shadow Hunter Blind, overlooking your food plots!
