Steps to a Successful Food Plot

New to food plotting? Follow these steps!

Step 1: Soil test

Soil testing will help you determine if and how much fertilizer and lime will be required to provide maximum results. If you’ve never done a soil test, we can help you and interpret the results.

Step 2: Weed Control

Whether you till or not, weed control is an essential step. Glyphosate is a cost effective non-selective herbicide that will kill off vegetation in a new or existing plot. We also offer grass-selective and broadleaf-selective herbicides when the situation calls for it.

Step 3: Lime

Based on soil test results, add lime. We recommend Cal Turf Pro lime because it is a fast acting, easy to spread pelletized lime. Plus, needing only 5 bags per acre per year, you’ll save time, labor and money!

Step 4: Seed

Selecting the proper seed blend is a crucial step in the process. It is important to determine your food plot goals, whether you’re trying to provide nutrition or attraction for hunting. We can help assist picking the right blends based on your goals.

Step 5: Fertilizer

Proper fertilization of your food plot ensures maximal growth of your plot. What blend of fertilizer and the amount needed will depend on what is being planted and what is called for in the soil test. This is also something we can help you out with.

Step 6: Shadow Hunter Blinds!

Obviously not an essential step, but what better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than sitting in warmth and comfort in a Shadow Hunter Blind, overlooking your food plots!
